Ahmedabad, July 22nd

A Gujarat court on Friday remanded Tathya Patel, the driver who allegedly crushed nine people to death with his luxury car while speeding across Ahmedabad’s ISKCON bridge, to remand until Sunday.

The driver’s father, Pragnesh Patel, has also been detained for 14 days.

The accident occurred around 1 am at ISKCON Bridge on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway on Thursday morning.

Police say nine people were killed when a speeding car plowed into a crowd that had gathered after an accident between another car and a truck.

Earlier on Thursday, after the arrest, the Gujarat Police brought accused Tathya Patel and her father to the crime scene where the incident took place.

In the video, the defendant is seen apologizing with folded hands after being brought to the scene.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting following the tragic incident and called on officials to take stern action against the accused.

At the high-level meeting, it was decided that the case would be heard as a matter of priority and the indictment filed within a week. The official statement said the case would be considered by the summary court by appointing a special prosecutor.
