NEW YORK (AP) — The feud between Ticketmaster and Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour is far from over — as recent events have weighed on fans hoping to land tickets in France.
On Tuesday, after some fans reported problems accessing the Ticketmaster website, sales of six of Swift’s upcoming shows in Paris and Lyon were suddenly delayed. The explanation wasn’t immediately clear, but in posts on Ticketmaster’s French Twitter several hours after the break began, the ticket seller indicated an issue with a third-party vendor.
Ticketmaster directed the Associated Press to the Twitter statement. Ticketmaster confirmed in the messages that tickets for shows in France were still available and the supplier was “working to resolve this issue as soon as possible”.
The company added that any unused codes to purchase tickets on Tuesday will remain valid — and affected fans will be notified directly of the new sale date and time. The new schedules have not yet been determined.
Chaos arrived on Tuesday after the spectacular crash seen last November in Ticketmaster ticket sales for their US tour ‘Eras’ – when Ticketmaster’s website crashed during a pre-sale event for Swift’s Stadium Tour and thousands of people lost their tickets after hours of waiting. On line waiting list.
At the time, the company said its site was inundated with both fan and bot attacks, which it claimed were consumers in order to get tickets and sell them on secondary sites. The company later issued an apology “to Taylor and all her fans – especially those who had a horrible experience trying to buy tickets”.
Swift expressed her frustration on behalf of fans in November, noting on Instagram that “it hurts me to see mistakes happen without looking back.”
Many lawmakers have accused Ticketmaster of abusing its power as the dominant ticket seller to consumers. Federal and state authorities stepped in to investigate the fiasco.
Ticketmaster, which merged with Live Nation in 2010, is the world’s largest ticket seller, handling 500 million tickets each year in more than 30 countries. About 70% of tickets to major concert venues in the United States are sold through Ticketmaster, according to data from a federal lawsuit filed by consumers last year.
Anger at the ticket seller resurfaced on Tuesday after ticket sales in France were delayed.
“TicketMaster is a poorly managed company whose poor practices stem in part from its monopolistic position in the business of concert ticket distribution,” Shobha Ghosh, a Syracuse University law professor who specializes in antitrust law, said in a press release.
Swift is wrapping up her 52-date US tour, which is set to conclude with shows in Los Angeles in early August. Its international shows begin in Mexico City on August 24. She is to give four concerts in Paris in May 2024 and two shows in Lyon next June.
