Despite its historic qualification in the round of 16, Stade Plabennecois was eliminated against FC Pau (4-2). For its part, Stade Rennais got rid of Troyes on penalties and qualified for the quarter-finals (1-1, tab 3-2).
It’s the end of a great epic for the Stade Plabennecois which went last weekend on the lawn of Pau FC for a historic confrontation in the Coupe Gambardella. The Finisterians completely missed their start to the match by conceding two goals in the space of two minutes (1-0, 10th then 2-0, 11th). A catastrophic start but Maxime Carval’s players had the merit of continuing to believe in their chances.
The step was too high for Stade Plabennecois
A paying mentality since the visitors came back to score during the first period (1-2, 26th), before equalizing just before the break (2-2, 45th). Hope was therefore still allowed 45 minutes from the end of this match. But the locals took the advantage on penalty at the end of the game (2-3, 72nd). Despite the desire to return to the score once again, the young Bretons exposed themselves to Pau counterattacks until they conceded a fourth goal which completely confirmed the hopes of Stade Plabennecois. We will remember despite everything the very good course in the competition of the Finistère club, which we remember is not even professional.
Rennes wins in numerical inferiority against Troyes
Stade Rennais faced Troyes in the round of 16. This Sunday, while the professionals won against Clermont, Laurent Viaud’s players qualified for the quarter-finals of the Gamabrdella Cup. However, at the end of the first 45 minutes, the young shoots of Piverdière were behind by one goal and still had not struck the slightest time on goal.
The Bretilliens then took advantage of a Trojan error to return to the game thanks to Aaron Malouda (1-1, 77th). A few minutes later, the Rouge et Noir, very happy to have equalized, were forced to finish the match at ten following the injury of Do Marcolino (80th). Fortunately for the Bretons, goalkeeper Mathys Silistrie kept his team in the game by emerging victorious from the many duels he had to play.
A winning penalty shootout
During the penalty shootout, the Rennes goalkeeper stopped two Trojan attempts and saw his crossbar repel the final shot from the hosts to allow his team to reach the quarter-finals. The draw will take place this Thursday, February 23. The Rennais could thus meet one of the last two regional level clubs still in the running, Pau FC or Carquefou. However, the opponent could be of a completely different level like Olympique Lyonnais, the defending champion, or one of the five other residents of National U19.
