Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment sells its stake to French company Mediawan

Plan B Entertainment for Brad Pitt, the company that produced films such as big courtIt agreed to sell a “significant” stake to Mediawan, the French media conglomerate behind the hit chain Call my agent.

The company said in a statement on Saturday that MediaOne is financing the deal through a capital raise with investments from shareholders including KKR, Atwater Capital and Societe Generale. Pete and his Plan B partners, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, will become owners of Mediawan after the deal. Plan B is valued at more than 300 million euros ($316.25 million), according to a person familiar with the matter.

Investors were looking to invest in independent production companies to take advantage of the growing demand for original shows. Affiliates of a big star like Pitt proved particularly desirable.

Last year, Reese Witherspoon sold a majority stake in his Hello Sunshine operation to a Blackstone-backed media company run by Walt Disney veterans in a deal that valued the company at $900 million. The production company created by LeBron James was valued at $725 million when it sold a minority stake to RedBird Capital Partners, Nike and Epic Games.

Mediawan B’s plan will be invested through a new entity, Mediawan US, which will coordinate the company’s development in the country.

Founded in 2015 as SPAC by French television producer Pierre-Antoine Capton, telecom billionaire Xavier Nel and Centerview Partners banker Matthieu Pigasse, Mediawan operates in television production, film production and content distribution. The Plan B agreement allows the company to expand outside the main European market.

“As we enter the next chapter of our development, we are excited about the possibilities this partnership offers as we expand our reach to an ever-growing global audience with a broad range of films and TV series across all platforms, genres and media,” Gardner and Kleiner said in the statement.

He founded the Plan B house in 2001 with his wife Jennifer Aniston and manager Brad Gray. The company has carved out a niche as an award-winning film producer and landed a deal to create TV shows for Amazon.com Inc.

Mediawan US’s board of directors will be chaired by Atwater Capital founder and managing partner Vania Schlogel, while Mediawan co-founder Capton will serve as CEO.

Bloomberg News earlier reported on talks between MediaOne and Plan B. The financial times The deal was announced earlier on Saturday.
