Stade Brestois announced this week that Kenny Lala would be signing on January 1 with the Finistère club. For now, the former right side of RC Strasbourg is already in training with his future teammates. Here’s everything you need to know about the 31-year-old.

A child from the Paris region

Trained at ES Parisienne, Kenny Lala signed with Paris FC in 2008. He then discovered the National for two seasons and even became an indisputable starter with the Ile-de-France region. His team nevertheless encountered difficulties in the Championship and did not manage to play for the places for the climb.

Outbreak in the North

In 2011, the defender joined Valenciennes, a resident of Ligue 1 at the time. He initially encountered great difficulty in finding his place in the first team, but gradually gained playing time. In 2014, the VAFC was relegated in Ligue 2 after a complicated season in the elite. It is at the lower level that Kenny Lala reveals himself. He plays as a right-back, but also as a central defender and has had a year full of success on a personal level. However, it is not kept by the Valencian leaders.

Free of any contract, he bounced back in stride at RC Lens (Ligue 2). He then plays on the right side, but also on the left of the defense. The 1m78 right-hander makes his multiple offensive qualities speak for themselves and works fully for the collective success of the Sang et Or. Unfortunately, the Pas-de-Calaisiens finish at the foot of the podium in 2017 and do not obtain a ticket to make their return first division.

Full success on the side of Strasbourg

For its part, RC Strasbourg is promoted to Ligue 1 and Kenny Lala wants to try his luck again at the highest French level. He therefore signed with the Alsatian club and quickly became an important player. Regularly decisive, the Ile-de-France player has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Ligue 1. He was also elected player of the month in December 2018 and won the Coupe de la Ligue a few weeks later against En Avant Guingamp. At the end of the season, he is in the eleventh type of the Championship after having notably scored 5 goals and delivered 9 assists.

A disappointing adventure in Greece

In February 2021, the right defender decided to join Olympiakos, a historic club in Greece. Even if he is no longer necessarily decisive and encounters difficulties on a personal level, he twice wins the Championship alongside Mathieu Valbuena or Yann M’Vila (2021 and 2022). However, his successive coaches no longer trust him. And at the start of the year, Olympiakos definitively announced to him that he was no longer counting on him, his contract was therefore terminated in October.

Kenny Lala wants to revive at Stade Brestois

The 31-year-old wanted to find a team quickly. And while RC Strasbourg was in the running to repatriate its former side, Kenny Lala finally chose to join Stade Brestois. Even if he will sign his contract on January 1 and will therefore not be able to participate in the meeting of December 28 against Olympique Lyonnais, the defender was this week in training with the Ty-Zefs.

He should potentially take the place of young Noah Fadiga and could be decisive in the race for maintenance, especially since four teams will be relegated at the end of the season. Even if he is sometimes limited defensively, Kenny Lala, who has European experience (11 Europa League games), will undoubtedly bring forward on the offensive level with his fine qualities as a centrer.
