Several cities in Iceland, Denmark and Canada have been cited as the safest in the world according to a new survey by a travel insurance company analyzing the safety of 29 cities around the world.
Reykjavik, Iceland is the safest city in the world, while Copenhagen and Montreal rank second and third, respectively, according to Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection. The company says its ranking is based on responses from travelers who have visited 29 cities popular with business and leisure travelers, a city safety index in The EconomistGeoSure Global City Rankings and Numbeo Crime Index.
Honolulu ranks 12the A position ahead of Miami (16e), Las Vegas (17e), New York (18e) and San Juan (25e).
Carol Muellervice president of Berkshire Hathaway, warns that unexpected problems can arise in even the safest of cities.
She says, “While the cities and countries in our ranking stand out for their safety, you never know what could happen when you embark on a trip, whether it be theft, security incidents, lost luggage or medical emergencies.”
Berkshire Hathaway has also analyzed travel safety in 42 countries. The safest country is the Netherlands, followed by Denmark and Iceland. Last year, Iceland ranked first, followed by New Zealand and Canada.
The country considered the least safe this year is Russia. Brazil and India also have a low level of security, ranking 41st, respectively.e and 40e ranks. The United States ranks 17the Field.
